AEON PROMOTES EXPORT AND SUPPORTS CONSUMPTION OF VIETNAMESE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

On June 23, 2020, the first batch of fresh Vietnamese lychees exported to Japan was officially displayed for sale at AEON's distribution system, including 250 AEON General Merchandise Stores and AEON Style stores in Japan.

In December 2019, the import restriction on Vietnam’s fruits was lifted. This is the first batch of fresh Vietnamese lychees exported to the Japanese market. AEON is the first retailer to introduce this fruit to consumers in Japan.

Fresh lychees were shipped by air between the end of May and the end of June without being frozen to ensure the quality and taste of the product. Japanese AEON customers will enjoy this fruit with the freshest taste.

The Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on import and export activities. However, with the desire to introduce quality specialties from different countries to consumers in Japan, AEON has made efforts to promote trade exchange and promotion to purchase and export these products in the shortest time, including Vietnamese lychee. Besides lychee, many other special Vietnamese agricultural products such as mango, dragon fruit and coffee have also been exported and sold in AEON’s supermarkets in Japan since 2015.

The success of exporting Vietnamese agricultural products to Japan and distributing at AEON's retail system is the result of efforts of companies under the AEON group in Vietnam. AEON has cooperated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to regularly carry out activities to support Vietnamese suppliers to improve the quality of their products, aiming to export to foreign markets, especially Japan. Specifically, the total export value of Vietnamese products through the AEON system reached nearly 250 million USD in 2017, 330 million USD in 2018, 370 million USD in 2019 and aims to reach 450 million USD in 2020.

In the Vietnamese market, AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan's AEON Group, not only promotes export but also implements activities to support the consumption of domestic agricultural products and organizes trade promotion programs through its General Merchandise Store system nationwide. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic that seriously affected the export of agricultural products in February, AEON Vietnam supported the consumption of more than 18 tons of dragon fruits and more than 58 tons of watermelon in just 4 - 5 days through its system of 05 General Merchandise Stores in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

In addition, AEON Vietnam cooperates with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities to strengthen organization of programs to connect supply and demand, fairs and exhibitions to support the consumption of domestic products. At its General Merchandise Store system across the country, AEON Vietnam always focuses on displaying Vietnamese products in convenient, easy to find and eye-catching locations to attract and introduce these product groups to customers.
