July 15, 2021 - Participating in the online conference on the consumption of longan and agricultural products of Hung Yen province, which was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the People's Committee of Hung Yen province, AEON’s Group representative in Vietnam shared that the group will promote the consumption of longan products as well as other local agricultural products.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People’s Committee of Hung Yen province jointly organized the Conference on July 15-16, with the attendance of Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai with leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee of Hung Yen province and manufacturing enterprises in the province.

In the context that the Covid-19 pandemic is still complicated, affecting the goods transportation in the country and export to foreign countries, the conference aims to support businesses of Vietnamese longan across the country, especially enterprises in localities such as Hung Yen. Accordingly, it aims to strengthen the seek and connection of business opportunities with purchasing parties, domestic and foreign distribution systems, and foreign exporters to promote consumption of longan in 2021 in particular and agricultural products of the province in general.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai shared: “In the past time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has accompanied with localities, ministries and businesses to promote business matching & trade to support farmers in the domestic market. At the same time continue to promote exports to international markets for agricultural products, including Hung Yen longan."

The conference also had online participation from other provinces and cities as well as from Vietnam Trade Offices abroad (China, Japan, Thailand, ...), distribution system including AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd and AEON TOPVALU Vietnam Co., Ltd representing AEON Group in Vietnam.

Mr. Shiotani Yuichiro, General Director of AEON TOPVALU Vietnam, shared “AEON Group desires to introduce Hung Yen longan to customers at our stores and supermarkets in Vietnam, then aim for exporting to AEON stores in Asian countries.” However, for the Japanese market, import activities for Vietnamese longan are still limited. Therefore, AEON also expressed the hope that the regulations on agricultural products of the two countries will be eased soon, creating favorable conditions for Hung Yen longan to be able to export to Japan, so that we have the opportunity to introduce to customers of AEON system. We believe that Hung Yen longan will also be positively supported and loved by Japanese customers like lychee.

In Vietnam, AEON Vietnam and AEON TOPVALU Vietnam regularly coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces/cities to organize consumption promotion activities for agricultural products such as watermelon, dragon fruit, and Bac Giang lychee. , …; at the same time, together with agencies such as Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) and Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center (HPA) organize activities to connect with Vietnamese suppliers and exhibiting Vietnamese goods for many consecutive years. In 2020, more than 150 suppliers participated in the “Business Matching Conference between Vietnam Suppliers and AEON to supply in AEON's global retail system”" organized by AEON Vietnam, AEON TOPVALU Vietnam and ITPC.

Not only promoting the introduction of Vietnamese products, AEON Vietnam also supports local suppliers through training activities, to contribute to improving product quality and towards meeting export requirements, with 97% positive feedback after the training course at the end of 2020. Besides, each year, the Group also supports the export of Vietnamese goods through the Group's distribution system, from apparel, food, seafood to agricultural products (coffee beans, lychee, bananas, mangoes, etc.).

Particularly for lychee, AEON Vietnam held a Lychee Festival for a week from June 14-20, and at the same time promoted the consumption of this fruit at all supermarkets with the total quantity nearly doubling in comparison of 2020. Besides, in 2020, when Vietnam's fruit import restriction order was removed, AEON was the first retailer to export lychee to Japan and introduce it to consumers here. In 2021, the enterprise continues to increase the export volume of this fruit up to 750% and recorded sales in Japan for Vietnamese lychee continue to increase. It is known that at the end of April, Mr. Furusawa Yasuyuki was appointed by AEON Group as General Director of AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd. and is the new representative of the Group in Vietnam. In the Vietnamese market, the Group aims to open more General Merchandising Stores and Supermarkets in the next 10 years.
